According to a survey in 2009 by Eduventures, a higher education consulting firm, the recession had a significant impact on those considering continuing education. The firm conducted a survey of 1,500 adults who planned to enroll in school within the next two years. Nearly half of respondents believed that the value of education had risen due to the recession, but over two-thirds said the state of the economy had affected their plans to pursue continuing education. A 2009 study from the Department of Education says, “Students who took all or part of their classes online performed better, on average, than those taking the same course through traditional face-to-face instruction.” Today, and into the future, internet based education will prove to be an effective and reputable way to earn a college degree, whether for first time students or continuing education.
